Description

We need your helping hands at Haven House, our emergency shelter in the Ocean View area of Norfolk! This project involves landscaping (mowing, edging, weeding, trimming, planting, and putting down fresh mulch), painting and repairing fences, detailing the van, pressure washing the exterior of the building, deep cleaning the interior rooms, and organizing our birthday/clothing shed. 

We have up to 11 families staying at Haven House at a time. Our staff works with each family to identify emergency needs, develop service plans, and find solutions to their critical housing barriers.

Completing this project would help our families entering the program to feel safe, comfortable, and welcome. Your help in making this happen would be of such great benefit to ForKids, our clients, & the whole community!

Additional Information

Q: Minors require an adult.
A: No

Q: Driving Directions
A: Haven House is located near the Pretlow Library in Norfolk, just off Granby Street. Be aware that D View Avenue is a one-way street, which you will have to access from 1st View. Haven House has scarce street parking so we do suggest carpooling if possible.

Q: Details of parking.
A: Limited on-street parking available. Carpooling is highly advised.

Q: Details of tools required.
A: ForKids will request donations & provide as many of the needed tools/supplies as possible but we welcome all to bring any supplies/personal tools that would aid in this project. Preferred, but not required... Weed-eater Hedge trimmers Pressure washer Gloves/Masks

Q: Plan for bad weather.
A: Group will stick to indoor cleaning assignments in case of inclement weather.

Q: Details of provided meals.
A: We will request lunch donations from local community members. However, should you prefer to bring your own lunch, let us know and we will be more than happy to accommodate that.

Q: Details of Provided Drinks
A: We will also request donations and provide water throughout the day. However, please feel free to bring additional water or other hydrating beverages.
