Meals on Wheels of Chesapeake Inc

Meals on Wheels of Chesapeake delivers nourishment, connection, and safety checks to facilitate wellbeing and independence for homebound older and disabled adults aging in place in Chesapeake. Founded in 1977, Meals on Wheels of Chesapeake is a United Way-certified, independent nonprofit community service organization and a member organization of Meals on Wheels America. Monday through Friday, we provide nutritious, home-delivered meals, safety checks, and smiles for elderly, disabled, and convalescing neighbors in Chesapeake. Our meal vendor is Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. We are a vendor agency for Senior Services of Southeast Virginia.

With the help of over 500 wonderful volunteers annually, we deliver two nutritious meals that meet federal nutritional guidelines each weekday, social connection, and safety checks to 350+ homebound neighbors each year throughout the City of Chesapeake, and provide a vital service to a vulnerable, largely elderly population, that allows them to age in place independently and with dignity.

We promote wellbeing for homebound neighbors through the use of evidence-based practices as outlined in Meals on Wheels America’s “More Than a Meal” service model, including the delivery of nutritious meals, social connection, and safety checks by vetted volunteers; and connection to community resources. Our goal is to help participants age in place nutritiously, affordably, and with dignity and independence in their homes and communities.

We are a caring community of participants, volunteers, donors, community partners, and staff, two full-time and two part-time.
