The YMCA JT's Camp Grom

In our most unique community collaboration yet, the YMCA of South Hampton Roads has teamed up with the Virginia Gentlemen Foundation to create a landmark new adventure park for those who need it most. JT’s Camp Grom isn’t just any camp. It’s a 70-acre retreat developed for wounded warriors and their families, the families of fallen war heroes—Gold Star Families, and children and adults with differing abilities. It’s a special place where everyone in the family can spend time and participate together! Like all Y camps, Camp Grom will deliver all the classic outdoor offerings: apline climbing tower, kayaking, swimming, archery and other fun fitness activities—with staff to help guide all campers and their families through their exhilarating YMCA camp experience. This 70-acre site in Virginia Beach boasts an aquatic center, an outdoor lake with fishing, a gym/auditorium, picnic shelters, a sports field, a water spray park and so much more. JT’s Camp Grom hopes to welcome thousands of Hampton Roads adults and children with differing abilities each year, plus serve the wounded veterans and Gold Star famliies that live in our area. There’s never been a project of this kind, of this magnitude. So we were thrilled to be asked to run the day-to-day operations of the camp. Currently, we offer a variety of programming, including group visit days, as well as facility rentals.
